Best Time To Visit Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka is a year-round holiday destination. There is always sunshine in one or other region of Sri Lanka and a section of its coastline. However, for the country as a whole, December to mid-April is considered the best time to visit.  Temperatures are fairly constant year round, with coastal regions enjoying average temperatures of 25-30°C and the highlands 15-18°C on average.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo

Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo

Arrive in Colombo at Bandaranaike International Airport. Check into your hotel and relax after your journey.

Towards evening, go on to visit the Gangaramaya Temple, and Viharamahadevi Park.

Take a leisurely stroll along Galle Face Green, a popular promenade along the seafront. Try seafood dinner at a local restaurant and enjoy the sunset.

Overnight in Colombo.

Day 2: Colombo – Kandy

After breakfast at the hotel, check out from the hotel and go on to visit Colombo National Museum to learn about Sri Lanka’s history and culture. Visit Independence Memorial Hall and Colombo’s colonial-era architecture.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy

Later, take a drive to Kandy. The journey offers stunning views of the countryside. This is a drive of around 3 to 4 hours. Check into a hotel on arrival in Kandy.

Overnight in Kandy.

Day 3: Kandy

After breakfast, go on to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which houses a sacred tooth relic of Buddha.

Go on to explore the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya. Explore the city’s vibrant markets and local culture. In the evening, watch a cultural dance performance.

Overnight in Kandy.

Day 4: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

Lake Gregory, Nuwara Eliya

Depart Kandy after breakfast at the hotel. Leave for Nuwara Eliya which is about 3-4 hours drive from Kandy.

The drive is quite scenic. On  the route, visit a tea plantation and factory to learn about Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea industry. Check into a hotel on arrival in Nuwara Eliya.

Explore the charming town of Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England”, due to its colonial architecture and cool climate. Stroll around Lake Gregory or visit Victoria Park.

Enjoy a lovely dinner at a local restaurant or at your own hotel. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya – Ella

The Famous Nine Arch Bridge, Ella

After breakfast at the hotel, check out from the hotel and head to Ella, a charming mountain town.

This is around 3 hours drive. Check into a hotel on arrival in Ella.

Later, go on to hike Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Visit the Nine Arch Bridge and watch for passing trains. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of Ella. Have a nice dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Ella.

Day 6: Ella – Yala National Park

After an early breakfast check out from the hotel to leave for Yala National Park, a drive of nearly 4-5 hours.

Check into a jungle lodge/resort near Yala National Park.

In the afternoon, embark on a thrilling safari to spot wildlife such as leopards, elephants, and various bird species.

Overnight near Yala National Park.

Day 7: Yala to Galle

After breakfast, check out from the jungle lodge/resort and head to the coastal city of Galle, a drive of approximately 4 hours by road.

On arrival, check into a hotel in Galle.

Explore the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through charming streets, visit museums, and enjoy the  beaches.

Soak in the beauty of nature for a relaxing evening.

Enjoy a lovely dinner at a local restaurant. Stay overnight in Galle.

Day 8: Departure

Check out from the hotel after breakfast in the morning. Head back to Colombo, a drive of approximately 3 hours. Explore Colombo further if you wish to. Shop for souvenirs at local markets or shopping malls.

Leave for Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward journey.
